Creating a Curriculum: History of Political Thought

Positions available: 4-6 Paideia Mundi is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing an ethics of thought and action in favor of all human and living beings on this planet thanks to the promotion of culture, arts and humanities. In this context, we have two programs: 1. A research program (think tank) dedicated to crafting our own ideas; 2. An educational program dedicated to bringing people to question the world around them. We are currently seeking to craft a thorough educational curriculum in history of political thought (political philosophy) with the aim of providing participants with strong foundations so as to improve their ability to question the world around them. The curriculum should be particularly focused on ethical leadership, public ethics and political regimes. At this point, we are looking into developing the curriculum for two periods of time: Antiquity (Western – from the Presocratics to the fall of the Roman Empire; China and India) and the Middle-Ages. We are looking for 4-6 students for each period of time with some expertise on relevant topics to help us draft the curriculum. The students will work in teams (one for each period of time) under the supervision of the Executive Director. Each student is expected to work 80 hours on the project. To be eligible, a student should be studying in one of the following subjects: philosophy, political science, history, classical literature, Chinese studies, Indian studies, Asian studies. Tasks to be completed will include: · Specifying the general objectives of the curriculum; · Suggesting relevant topics; · Preparing a list of relevant authors and masterpieces, and writing a detailed chronological bibliography; · Putting together a list of titles for the various classes to be prepared in order to fulfill the objectives of the curriculum, with an outline of the main ideas to be presented during each of them.
