Research Assistant - Create Student Sample - UBC Professor Matt Lowe
The research assistants will support the research initiatives under the guidance of research faculty. They will have the opportunity to work with UBC Professor Matt Lowe (https://mattlowe.site/). Areas of inquiry include: behavioural economics, labour economics, microeconomics. Professor Lowe's research project hopes to understand the ways in which public figures utilize social media to reflect their values. Currently at the stage of data collection, we are looking for motivated, energized, and hard-working students to gain exposure to research and academia. This stage of the position requires skills in data retrieval and manipulation, along with strong organization and time management abilities. This stage will focus on building a sample of survey respondents . The project may include, but is not limited to: Participating in data collection, cleaning, managing, analysis and storage. Making use of knowledge on the North American academic system to build a sample of students. Attending triweekly meetings and contributing to study methodology and development. Our main goal here is to construct and analyze a high quality dataset on North American graduate students. Ability to work with spreadsheets is necessary, and some knowledge of Stata or R is helpful.
Project: Part II: Strategic Planning for a Nutrition Consultancy Expansion.
Nutritionops is a network of consultants who want to grow into a larger more formal consultancy business. Established and incorporated in Toronto in 2020, the company seeks to work on international development nutrition projects which need a food industry business lens. Previous projects completed in 2020-2021 include reviewing literature on Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices of wet market food vendors in Low Middle-Income Countries towards food safety (GAIN), Keeping Food Markets working during Coronavirus (GAIN) a review of nutrient dense foods available in markets in Niger (Helen Keller International) and a market and innovation review of available vitamin A products for UNICEF. The value proposition of this consultancy is the ability to help NGOs get food industry insights as they often cannot interact with food companies directly due to various internal policies around conflict of interest. Development Resource for students
The VSE Career Centre is seeking students who are interested in Development Economics and connecting students with insights and opportunities in the field. We are looking for motivated, creative, and passionate students who can develop a resource that will help Economic students gain access to resources that will help them better understand Development Economics while offering access to jobs, graduate studies (Pre-docs), and other resources. This project would require the student to collaborate with the Career Centre staff, other students, VSE professors, and outside connections to gather relevant resources.
Cleantech & Ecotech Start Up Investment Research Project
The main goal for the project is research and content that addresses the state of start-up investment in Canada, with a specific focus on eco-tech and cleantech. This is to establish the impact of a robust cleantech and ecotech ecosystem on the Canadian economy and our decarbonization goals. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: Conducting research on the state of cleantech and ecotech entrepreneurship in Canada. Conducting research on the current state of start-up investment in Canada, with a specific focus on eco-tech and cleantech. Analyzing the progression and/or regression that has occurred in the Canadian cleantech and eco-tech landscape. Identifying the unique challenges facing Canadian founders/entrepreneurs in the cleantech and eco-tech space. Developing a prognosis or vision for the future cleantech/ecotech landscape. Exploring the impact of ecosystems for driving success in the cleantech and eco-tech space, including examples of successful ecosystems elsewhere. Creating a relevant database of the research for storytelling and narrative support. Creating written content to support a keynote and podcast series.
