Details

Our production company films many hours of footage about buffalo/bison and related topics, plus interviews with experts that need to be logged into excel spreadsheets for information retrieval during the editing process particularly for our footage in Canada and various countries around the world.

We would like to collaborate with students in the data entry. This will involve several different steps for the students, including:

  • Familiarizing themselves with our simple, yet detailed, database structure.
  • Transferring data into our databases efficiently, so that is it organized and easily retrievable.
  • May require some research into identifying animals and locations, and noting interviews with experts (names, positions, locations - not transcriptions)

Bonus steps in the process would also include:

  • Providing assistance in creating new databases, and conducting research for marketing documentaries.

Deliverables
  •  view numerous hours of film footage on a computer or laptop and enter detailed information onto Excel spreadsheets
  • conduct online searches with detailed and thorough observation skills for discerning the proper names of specific wild and domesticated animals in various countries, including zoos and wildlife parks, and natural habitats
  • note people, their position, and locations of the experts interviewed
  • research broadcasters, streamers and distributors for documentary projects

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • Familiarity with our databases
  • Efficient data transfer
  • Verification of data accuracy
  • Organization and retrieval of data processes

Bonus steps would include:

  • Assisting in creating new databases

Final deliverables should include:

  • a detailed database to easily reference material
  • potentially a secondary database started of research broadcasters, streamers and distributors for documentary projects

Mentorship

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Our research projects and databases
  • Current understanding of our field of research
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter
  • staff time - I will provide guidance throughout each step
  •  be available for consultation and training as needed and provide feedback as the student works.
  • access to data and film footage
  • provide software if needed
