Details

The Mission Environmental Stewardship Society (MESS) is committed to providing long term sustainable strategies to the citizens of Mission, British Columbia.

We would like to collaborate with students to plan our 2024 Earth Day Celebration, Green Living, to help meet our goals. Green Living is an event held at Fraser River Heritage Park in Mission where vendors, local community groups, sustainable partners and environmental professionals come together to promote environmental consciousness and public education.

This will involve several different steps for the students, including:

  • Familiarizing themselves with our mission, values and goals.
  • Familiarizing themselves with the purpose, guidelines and budget of the event.
  • Creating a plan of action and a detailed breakdown of tasks to facilitate the event efficiently.
  • Assisting in marketing and promoting our event.

Bonus steps in the process would also include:

  • Recommending improvements for future Earth Day events.
Deliverables

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • Understanding of our mission, values and goals
  • Understanding of the purpose of public community events in the field of sustainability
  • Ability to efficiently plan and execute an event within a given budget
  • Demonstration of effective marketing using the provided branding and guidance

Bonus steps would include:

  • Recommending areas of improvement for future events

Final deliverables should include

  • A list of sustainable vendors that have confirmed attendance to the event.
  • 2-3 Marketing materials that will promote attendance to the event.
Mentorship

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Our mission, values and goals
  • Our programs and fundraising events
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter.

The Mission Environmental Stewardship Society (MESS) is a non profit organization created to support the efforts of citizens, organisations, businesses, and government to prevent and remove littered and illegally dumped waste from the City of Mission.

To achieve this, MESS administers comprehensive waste diversion and anti-litter programming in beautiful Mission, British Columbia. We have been a part of the community since 1994. First formed under the Mission Environmental Society, we branched off in 1998 to form what was known as "Mission Adopt-A-Block Society". After substantial growth, and the development of several highly successful education and research based programs, we expanded into the Mission Environmental Stewardship Society in 2017.

Under the direction of a dedicated board of directors, we have grown into a multi-faceted organisation that encourages citizens of Mission to participate in a proactive approach to keeping Mission clean and a healthier place to live.
