Project Objective:

The main objective of this project is for students to conduct comprehensive research and compile a list of relevant press contacts within our spheres of interest, including destination marketing, arts & culture events, business development, and public realm. This initiative aims to establish a strategic foundation for effective public relations outreach, ensuring targeted and impactful communication with key media outlets.


Project Goal:

The project's overarching goal is to empower our organization with a robust PR strategy by providing a resourceful compilation of press contacts. This compilation will serve as a valuable tool for future communication efforts, ensuring that our messages reach the right channels and resonate effectively within our target areas, ultimately enhancing our visibility and impact across various domains.

Deliverables
  1. Research press contacts.
  2. Identify key media outlets.
  3. Compile accurate press contact lists including name, outlet, link to bio, phone and email information.
  4. Verify data accuracy.
  5. Categorize and organize contacts.
  6. Document sources.
  7. Conduct quality assurance.
  8. Prepare a concise Google sheet and report.
  9. Develop a press release and related communications templates for future press releases.
  10. Develop a 2-pager PR Strategy for the organization.
  11. Create a list of press release distribution software including any pay-per-use pricing.
  12. Seek feedback and make revisions.


Mentorship
  1. Dedicated staff guidance and regular check-ins.
  2. Training on relevant tools and technologies.
  3. Access to an organization email for your use during the project.
  4. Ongoing feedback sessions and a collaborative environment.
  5. Mentorship for guidance and assistance.
  6. Support in documenting findings.
  7. Our goal is to ensure students have the resources and assistance needed for a successful project completion.

The Yonge North York Business Improvement Area (BIA) was recently established and is one of over 80 BIAs in Toronto. Our organization is overseen by a voluntary Board of Directors from our business community. Representing over 1600 business and commercial property members, with over 30,000 employees and 51,000 residents within our district, we are one of the largest BIA’s in Toronto. Located along the Yonge corridor between Hwy 401 and just North of Finch Avenue, our urban district is experiencing significant development.
