Looking to elevate your organization and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from the University of San Diego to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Students in this Capstone Projects course will apply data analytics tools, strategies, and concepts to a data analytics project for a company that has agreed to participate. Each group will choose a project to work on throughout the course. During the first two weeks of the course – different topics relevant to completing the required project work in this course will be explored.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Deliverables are negotiable and will seek to align the needs of the students and the organization. Students will continue to share their project progress throughout the semester with the companies.

Some final project deliverables might include:

  1. A 10-15 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations
  2. A detailed report including their research, analysis, insights and recommendations

Project Examples

Students in groups of 4-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations based on their in-depth research and analysis.

Project activities that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:

  • Defining the business need articulated by the organization
  • Gathering the information needed and working through the solution to the problem for an organization
  • Using analytics to solve a business problem, including the analysis done to understand the data set, how the variables interact with each other, how they validated their findings, and why they chose the approach that they ended up using
  • Creating a tableau dashboard that the organization can use in the future to monitor the business problem
  • Displaying project findings using data visualizations and other evidence that outline the final results in both a PowerPoint deck and a final report that can be given to the organization
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

A representative of the company will be available to answer questions from students in a timely manner for the duration of the project.

A representative of the company will be available for a pre-selection discussion with the administrator of the course to review the project scope.
