Details

When historical costumes are worn, actors are better prepared for the physicality of voluminous skirts and rigid bodices if they practice wearing them throughout the rehearsal process. Using this grant, a student will construct Victorian style rehearsal costumes (corsets and petticoats) for the department of theatre in preparation for our Winter 2024 production of Sunday in the Park with George.

Deliverables

The Level Up student will be tasked with sewing Victorian corsets and petticoats. These will be new intermediate sewing patterns for the student, and the number produced will depend on how quickly they pick up the task. Each subsequent garment constructed will take less time to produce.

Mentorship

The student will be provided access to the Costume Shop at MacEwan University for the duration of the project. Supplies, tools, patterns, and materials will all be provided. I will mentor the student through the construction of the first corset and petticoat, working alongside them to lead them through the construction process. I will then allow the student to see through as many remaining garments as possible with this grant.

The student will be given my contact information, and will remain in touch weekly with progress reports and materials requests. I will also be accessible to answer any questions throughout the process.
