The financial model should include detailed projections of revenue, costs, and cash flows, as well as sensitivity analyses and alternative capital structure scenarios. The investor pitch deck should highlight the market opportunity, the competitive landscape, the strengths of your product and team, and the potential return on investment for early-stage investors.
Ultimately, the goal for the graduate students should be to help your startup secure funding from investors who are interested in the potential of your product and the ability of your team to execute on your business plan.
The graduate students will need to undertake the following tasks to successfully complete the project:
- Conduct market research and opportunity sizing to estimate the size of the target market and the potential market share of the product.
- Develop a revenue model based on pricing, unit sales, and revenue per unit.
- Identify the cost drivers for the business and estimate the cost per unit for each driver.
- Develop a monthly cash flow projection based on estimated revenues and costs.
- Calculate enterprise valuation using a discounted cash flow (DCF) analysis and estimate the net present value (NPV) of expected cash flows.
- Identify and evaluate alternative capital structure scenarios, such as equity and debt financing.
- Assist in develop an investor pitch deck that effectively communicates the value proposition of the product, the potential for growth and profitability, and the return on investment for early-stage investors.
To support the graduate students in completing the financial model and pitch deck project for our skincare startup, we will offer the following resources:
- Staff time: We will provide regular check-ins with the students to ensure that they have the support and guidance they need to successfully complete the project.
- Access to data: We will provide the students with access to any relevant data sources and information that they need to complete the project, including financial statements, market research reports, and any other data that can help inform their analysis.
