Founded by AccuWeather Founder and CEO Dr. Joel N. Myers, the Dads' Resource Center (www.dadsrc.org) provides education, resources and advocacy for single fathers. Our organization has done a lot of research into ways that the family law and social services systems unnecessarily deny children access to their fathers (www.dadsrc.org).

We are looking to expand the evidence needed to further emphasize the need for system reform that will better ensure father family involvement.

* Any unique research that shows the importance of fathers for children growing up, or how not having a father in their lives negatively impacts children and their future success.

* Any research that shows the disparity of custody time awarded in contested custody cases.

* Any research that illustrates the biases or ways that fathers not as fully involved in human services as mothers.

* Any research into the lack of requirements for the hiring of, training of, or reporting done by, guardian ad litems.

* We have a particular focus right now on the misuse of temporary protection of abuse (PFA) orders to gain advantage in matters of custody. In Pennsylvania someone can file the paperwork for a temporary PFA and a magisterial judge can issue a temporary PFA based on the information provided by the accuser, without the person being accused even being present. These are approved 90% of the time. In situations where this is done against fathers who have not done anything that truly justifies a PFA order, they are then considered guilty until innocent.

There are numerous potential serious implications that can occur. But, most significantly these orders almost always require that the father immediately leave the residence and be denied any contact with his children. By law, there has to be hearing within 10 business days, but for a variety of reasons this often is extended. Either way, the father is often leveraged to give up access to his children to have the order dropped.

Our focus is in Pennsylvania, but we would can use any quality research that might be procured in other states.

With the collaborative assistance of the Dads' Resource executive director we need students or groups that are able to identify avenues to explore, put together the process and carry the research through to completion.

The Dads' Resource Center will certainly attribute the work to those involved if they so desire.
