Project Summary: 


Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on learners from Cape Breton University to be your learner-consultants, in a project-based experience. Learners will work on one main project over the experience of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Learners in this program/experience are very motivated and have the qualities to conduct research activities which could advance the profession of healthcare management. The capstone course is a culmination of the healthcare management program that sets the ground work for this course. This course requires students to broaden their knowledge base to analyze specific healthcare case studies, situations, issues &/or research to demonstrate critical thinking for problem solving and decision making.


What can our learners do for your company?


Learners in groups of 4-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.There will be one project manager per team who will be the direct contact to you and your organization.


Project activities that learners can complete may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Understanding basics about the importance and function of leadership through understanding leadership styles, proficiencies, and competency to achieve excellence in managing within a diverse healthcare system.
  • Demonstrate collective leadership capabilities to discuss healthcare issues, collaborate an administrative solution, and to provide meaningful feedback to peers.
  • Analyze specific healthcare case studies, situations, issues and /or research to demonstrate critical thinking for practical problem solving, analysis and decision making.
  • Students will understand and self-reflect on their own leadership styles focused on personal leadership throughout the course.
  • Students will prepare and deliver a presentation applying key leadership theories, conduct professional research and literature reviews on a specific healthcare issue, analyze the findings and providing recommendations of implementation strategies to address the issue within the organization.
  • Students will demonstrate fundamental management concepts related to healthcare issues with a healthcare facility.
  • Students will demonstrate high-quality academic written and oral communication skills, including professional healthcare terminology.
  • Students will exhibit originality and academic integrity in all written work complying with CBU and course policies.

Some final project deliverables might include: 

  1. A 10-15 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations

3) Researching the causes for long wait lists to enter long term care homes.
